Kite failure

Today was an absolutely beautiful day! It was in the 50's this morning while we attended a preschool friend's birthday party. After nap time it was in the 60's and just perfect.

The kids and I took a long walk to the park with the hope of flying kites. I don't know what I was thinking. I should not have taken on kite flying without daddy! My first mistake was flying kites in the park, instead of a WIDE open field. My second mistake was giving David the string while I tried to take a picture of him. I ended up with no picture, a kite in a tree, and a crying boy. A nice man at the park came over with his son's basketball and kept throwing it at the kite and finally got it free! We took it over to the open field and tried again, but this time the wood piece in the middle broke. After searching hard to find the perfect stick to work in it's place, the wind STOPPED. I literally had wind burn from all that morning at the park, but it stopped at 4:12! Seriously, mama is not going kite flying again.

I fondly remember many kite flying attempts in my youth and was just trying to give my kids the same experience, but I don't think it is meant to be. The kite is from Grandma and Grandpa G and David has been waiting so long to fly it!

Anyone have any kite flying tips?

The kids absolutely love this bridge on the walk. Elizabeth collects sticks and pine cones the whole way there to throw into the water! She even shares then with her brother. Of course David wants a bigger stick - all boy!My favorite was watching him think through how he was going to get it into the water and then his pure joy when he accomplished his plan!!

That's funny, I tried to do the kite in the backyard...fail. It ended up tangled in the fence and the boys laughing at me. We will leave kite flying to the daddy!
