Preschool homework

**Please know that I love Parkview Preschool and I am very happy with our choice for David to attend there! This is just one of those "ah ha" moments for me as a mother who is a teacher.

I have to say that I was a little stressed last week when David came home with all his "homework."

The very first day I found out about each of these:

1. Complete a great poster called "All About Me" ASAP. On the poster he had to color, answer questions, write his name, and collect pictures of him and our family. David does not ask to color or write EVER - only paint occasionally.

2. David was first to get the "art book" where David uses paint, play doh, markers, crayons, scissors, etc. to create something and then takes it back to school, as soon as possible, for the next person to complete a project. Once again, a total great idea and an area David needs to improve as he does not have great fine motor skills.

3. Take a red picture and print it and take it to school, as soon as possible as September is red month.

4. By Friday draw, cut of a magazine, print on the computer, and/or take a picture of something that starts with the letter A that they will use to make a letter book.

I really am excited by the projects and I am a HUGE proponent of family/school connections, but I was overwhelmed getting them all on the first day! We took it one step at a time and over the weekend we finished the art project and returned that on Monday. On Monday afternoon we took pictures at the apple orchard for the red picture, and an apple for the "A" bag. I printed those pictures and a few more for David's "All About Me" (thanks Aunt Alicia for helping get David to color the page and answer questions) and returned those on Wednesday. That just leaves finding something else in clip art that starts with "A" and cutting it out for our letter bag on this Friday. Next week, we only need to find letter "B" and bring snack on Friday!

I have no doubt in my mind I am a better and more gracious teacher, as I become the parent of a school age child and live out the other side of homework assignments!!

I am totally stressed about Abbie starting school...I do not have time built into my life for these kids of things! I remember my parents helping me a ton with projects all through school and frankly, I"m not sure I'm that kind of parent. I've graduated once, I don't need to do any more homework!
