Little Miss Independent

I wanted to sure with you a typical potty break for Elizabeth. We are very proud of her and she has continued to do an awesome job despite 2 weeks of an awful diarrhea virus we got swimming. Many outfits and sheets later we are finally free of it! Praise the Lord!

Here is a typical potty experience (BTW she has the smallest bladder so this happens at least 10-12 times a day)

E: Mommy, please go potty with me? (This just baffles me and you will soon see why)
Me: Okay sis, let's go.

Elizabeth then waits for me at the bathroom and will not enter unless I am there. If the lights are on, she turns them off and then turns them on again. She then takes off her shorts and undies, and then turns around and hoists herself up on the big potty. (She prefers only the big one now after all the loose stools kept filling the little potty completely. TMI?) If you try to help her, as it is a tall potty and a struggle for her, she goes even faster by herself and she falls into the potty. (This has happened a few times.) She hikes up her shirt and holds it the entire time while she tries to watch everything. If it is a number 2 she says, "Please I want privacy." She lets me know when she is done, and if it is #1, she pulls off some TP and wads it up for 2 minutes, then wipes herself. She pushes herself back off the potty and flushes. After that she sits down on the floor to put on her underwear by herself. It does not matter if we are in the restroom at the swimming pool, or Fareway, or Target, or the Children's Musuem, she sits her bare bottom down. She then puts on her shorts/skirt by herself. After washing hands she tells me to "COME" in a stern voice. She then waits for me to leave the bathroom and then shuts off the lights. If you help any in point like when the levers are too hard for her to flush by herself or with the undies so she doesn't have to sit down, she throws a tantrum.

I know it is normal for a 2 year old to start to experiment with independence, but SERIOUSLY??!! And why then do I need to go with her and watch her do this whole routine multiple times a day just cause she is a girl and we like to go with other people?! :)

I truly am so thankful we started this process during summer and when she was just an early two because wow is she independent!! My sister Alicia can attest to all of this and especially the tantrums in public if you try to help. With a completely sincere heart, "Lord help us!"

Oh man, this sounds just like Julia!! However, sonic introducing the potty to Hannah, Julia has totally become a potty baby and wants me to do everything for her. She won't even pull down her own pants. Kinda mkes me miss the independent days!

Glad to hear she's doing well with the potty. Her personality makes me smile.

Oh, Andrea, that cracks me up!!! We are so, so not there! I think if Luke were in charge and even remotely close to going on the potty, he would be willing to sit on my lap! ;)

I have actually heard that delayed walkers (my son) and especially boys struggle with motor planning, so I am waiting at least until after Christmas.
