We just embarked on another new adventure in our life. David began soccer practice tonight! Josiah is on his team, and they are Team Fire! Daddy quizzed and reminded him on the most important rule in soccer before he left in the morning. However, David still preferred to use his hands to stop the ball sometimes :) Four of my main goals for signing up for soccer are:
1. Exercise
2. Skill building - coordination specifically
3. Give David experience with kids that is not at church
4. Toughing up my mama's boy
The first three sessions are for skill work and then the last three sessions are "non-competitive" games.
David did get lots of exercise, and seemed to improve even during the 50 minute practice. He worked on kicking, stopping, running skills, as well as following the directions of another adult! He had a hard time choosing to obey and stop when the coach said red light and use his foot to stop the ball, not his hands. We talked about it afterward on the car ride home (#1 - #2)!
He got to work on the toughing up as he got kicked in the face by a soccer ball (#4). He came bawling to me, but I was proud he did recover and went back to practice!!!
Also, he got a little "real world" (#3) experience. One boy was kind of bullying Josiah. David pushed the boy's arm's off Josiah and said, "Leave my friend alone." The boy got up in David's face and asked him how old he was. David said 4 and the other boy (coach's son) said he is 5 1/2. I almost stood up to take care of the situation, but the boy seemed to let it go. The incident also made for lots of conversation on the way home! I was so proud of him for standing up for Josiah and we talked about how you do stand up and tell someone no if they are being unkind. I am thankful Jamie and I saw the incident and for what David did!
Pray for us! Silly how simple things like a tot soccer can be such a big deal and used to teach so much! I think I had butterflies half the day on behalf of him!
