What to do in a blizzard (or the days following):

1. Go to the movies with a friend.
Did you know that at 10AM on Saturdays movies on only $2? We are excited that the Kapfer's moved back to the area and we enjoyed a movie out together. We watched Despicable Me and it was pretty good, except for 2 scenes that took place in an orphanage where the kids were not loved to say the least. Also, the adoptive father took the kids back to the orphanage which made for good conversation later about forgiveness, but could be awful for a child struggling with insecurities!! I don't think any of the next few movies look great for our 2 and 4 year old, but it is a great deal if it fits your family! We are definitely doing the last one, Yogi Bear, on March 19th!

2. Go to the Iowa Children's Museum.
We are so blessed by Grandma and Grandpa Herman with a yearly pass to the Iowa Children's museum! It has definitely prevented me from going crazy and I love that the kids are truly learning while we are there. David and I worked a lot on letter naming one day, fine motor building, improving the train track, and on following a list of directions. Elizabeth prefers the grocery shop, pizzeria, and the hospital.
In the hospital. We were trying to get a pink picture for preschool, but it kept getting their lips and didn't turn out quite right :) It is hard for a boy to find a good pink picture!

3. Have a dance party and dress up.
This is truly almost a daily occurrence in our house in the winter months! It truly is so good for the kids, as they literally jump up and down and groove to the music! I always dance with them some and can testify that they (we) are burning calories!

4. Get caught up on projects like taking a white preschool picture! I also worked on the kids scrapbooks one afternoon while they painted, and we made valentines. Of course, I didn't even have time to take a picture as we were so messy with hand paint, but it was fun!

5. Bake and cook! Of course, I don't have a picture of this either. Baking with the kids is not my most preferred activity, but they love it and I know it is so good for them to follow directions, use fractions, and they usually are more likely to eat dinner when they help!

Good life lessons...helps to teach compassion and the importance of helping those orphans. Makes me sad to think about.
