Yesterday we began a new routine! Yesterday and today I gave Elizabeth her first quiet time. There have been sometimes she has not napped, but I have never told her it was okay to play. Today, I told her she had to stay in her bed, but could play and I would come get her after an hour. I forgot that it took David awhile to learn the routine of "quiet time." I thought she did okay, but only because I rested and had no idea what she was doing! Phillip said she only stayed in her room for 30 minutes and then went to David's room and started playing! We talked and about it and tomorrow I will stay awake to make sure it goes better :) It is making the evenings AMAZING though, as we started the bedtime routine by 6:15 yesterday and 6:30 tonight. Both kids were sleeping by 7:15! It makes for a VERY relaxing evening for Phillip and I! It also makes for a relaxing afternoon as I am not stressed that Elizabeth is not napping and fighting with her over taking a nap and then fighting at 9:00 at night when she is still not sleeping again! This is just peaceful! I should have done it sooner, but the 3- 5 time can still be hard without a nap. It is worth it though and she did great this afternoon and yesterday. She didn't have any meltdowns despite no nap! She still got 12 hours of sleep at night and no more fighting! I am sure days mama will still need to encourage naps, but for now I am excited about the new arrangements! I also still think having down time by herself for at least an hour is important, but just doesn't have to involve sleep!

We did the same thing with Parker in the last month. I appreciate the cooperation we get at bedtime now too. I was thinking it was early to drop the nap, but after hearing from you and several other friends, I think it is within range.
Amen to alone time. I didn't have to start it with Abbie until she was 3 1/2. She naps sometimes, but some days just plays. Jonah still needs his nap and luckily doesn't fight me b/c I'm pretty sure that's a battle that I would lose! :)
