My mother and I used 3 different kinds of chocolateand just carved and used LOTS of frosting to put layers together.
The tutorial I found online suggested using fondant to make the face,but that was too much work so I cut out a face from the paper plate.
It was my brother's idea... also I know Thomas is number 1,

holy cow woman, that cake is awesome! Maybe you should make mine :) We bought frozen pound cake and we're going to "carve" it as well. I have half of a toy Thomas play dough thingy that I'm going to use for the face. What is it with boys and large blue locomotives? Thanks for the photos!!
I second that it looks AWESOME!!!! Jason decorates my cake every year - maybe I should suggest something like this!!
Um...I buy my cakes at hy-vee. they paint cinderella on them and that's about it. Geez...I'm a bad mom! ;)
Hey, me again. Just read that David is getting up in the middle of the night. We've gone through that. I read somewhere that one reason that they do it is because they have to go to the bathroom and that if you sit them on the potty, they'll go and then go right back to sleep. Just something else to try.
