Beginning Potty Training?

Last night David decided he wanted to wear big boy underwear. He went in the potty twice and had one accident. M&Ms are quite the motivation for him. I was very encouraged going to bed last night thinking this might not be so bad. However...

Today has been a little more difficult. He has only gone once in the potty (little dribble) and had two accidents. I am thinking about starting next week on Wednesday for good, but I wanted to get an idea for where he is. I don't think he completely gets the concept that we DON'T want him to go in his underwear. I obviously don't want to give him a consequence for going in his pants, but at the same time he just says, "that's okay mama, let's get new underwear" and doesn't seem to concerned that he missed the opportunity to go in the potty. So I need to do a little more time to think through everything and a little more research before we officially start for good. I do hope that I have bought the last box of diapers for him though and that we are close to beginning.

I hate potty training. We thought Abbie was trained and now she absolutely refuses to go. "No way Mommy, no way." It is awful. I am so annoyed, but I don't know what to do b/c I don't want to totally turn her off from it by forcing her to do it.

When we started, I found it helpful to pump her full of liquids so that she was having to go every 5 minutes or so. This seemed to help her grasp the concept of what she was supposed to be doing.

Yeah the pumping full of liquids things really helps...that way they have success all the time. Take him every 30 mins or so and if he has an accident say "that's ok! next time let's get to the potty before we potty in our pants" or whatever you are calling it...and be really excited and positive. He will start to get the connection and the coincidental successes he is bound to have from all the drinks will help his muscles know what to do. Good luck! Staying up beat and positive is the key!
